| | Mr. James W. Mash, President/CEO of Purafil, Inc. A Division of Kaydon Corporation | | Crafting a Unified Strategic Vision to Drive Growth for Long-Term Profitability, Escalating Global Expansion and Balancing Corporate Finances as an Executive Business Partner
As President and CEO of Purafil, Inc., James (Jim) Mash, Sr. is responsible for developing a strategy, along with creating and communicating the mission for the organization. The Purafil organization is recognized as the world leader in the gas-phase filtration industry. Mr. Mash is acknowledged for constructing the long-term strategic vision for Purafil to achieve their business objectives. His strategic vision for Purafil focuses on three fundamental aspects: supporting global customer intimacy by conducting business under a regional approach in alliance with local cultures; generating market leadership and brand recognition in products and services to uphold a best-in-class commitment; and disruptive innovation to continually foster diverse new products, markets and business partnerships.
Prior to coming to Purafil, Jim Mash managed key construction aspects of major projects such as the world’s busiest airport, Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Glaxo Pharmaceuticals in the Research Triangle, and several seventy-story plus high-rise buildings. Hired as Purafil’s Vice President of Manufacturing and Operations in 1993, Mr. Mash’s twenty-plus years of experience managing extensive projects placed him in position to control costs and develop Purafil’s ISO quality program while raising product performance globally. He was promoted to the position of Corporate Vice President in 1998, cultivating crucial corporate partnerships with such companies as Ingersoll-Rand, Yokogawa, Carrier and Honeywell. Promoted again in 2002 to Vice President of Sales, Mr. Mash accepted responsibility for developing Purafil’s global sales distribution, resulting in an export business segment comprising sixty-five percent of overall Purafil business and reinforcing Purafil’s global brand recognition. Since his appointment as President and CEO, Mr. Mash has successfully transformed the well-established, privately-owned company into a flourishing subsidiary of the publicly traded corporation Kaydon Corporation (KND).
After his appointment as Purafil President in 2006, Mr. Mash’s most significant achievement was the restructure of domestic and global enterprise into regional business units under the leadership of Purafil’s strongest sales management. Refining the company’s infrastructure created additional support for unit management and business partners throughout the organization. With a focus on strategic solutions analysis, he conceptualized the structure and creation of a fully integrated business reporting database and management system known as the Purafil W.A.R. Room (Worldwide Analytical Resources). The system is critical to the success of business expansion, identifying and acting on business trends and global business unit performance for over two hundred representative companies world wide.
Mr. Mash successfully completed a five-year Sheet Metal Apprenticeship as a member of Local 12 Sheet Metal Workers, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and attended the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Throughout his business life, he has completed numerous advanced training courses and benefited from the expertise of strong mentors. Mr. Mash states, “The only way to be successful is to create a highly efficient and motivated culture at the company and we are fortunate to have that at Purafil.”
Jim Mash is currently a member of the local Chamber of Commerce, the Georgia Traditional Manufacturer’s Association and the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM). He has also served on Georgia’s Governor’s Manufacturing Council. Service to the community includes coaching soccer for more than twelve years. England, Laboratory / R&D Manager | | “A patent examiner looks for the magic in an invention. But the inventor doesn’t intentionally set out to create magic,” Bill England, Laboratory/R&D Manager explains.
With more than 35 years of experience in air quality monitoring and instrumentation, Bill. England directs the revolutionary research and development initiatives of Purafil, Inc. Bill oversees Purafil’s Corrosion Classification Coupon (CCC) research, analysis and reporting – a comprehensive Purafil service, which allows for the passive monitoring of corrosive, acid gases as the first step in establishing an air quality control program. Purafil provides complimentary analysis of more than 12,000 coupons annually and reporting in 10 languages. Bill also manages the analysis and reporting of chemical media, also a complimentary service, which is a key element to verifying the performance of the filtration system and projecting the life cycle of system media.
Bill is also active in the unparalleled research, development and testing of new gas-phase filtration technologies, in quality assurance testing of Purafil media according to ISO 9001:2000 procedures, and the design and operation of test procedures and test equipment, as part of Purafil’s on-site consultation customer program.

Bill is also the intuitive inventor of numerous, patented Purafil products, including the Purafilter ®, Purafil ® Select, PuraGRID ®, as well as Purafil’s many other dry-chemical, gas-phase filtration medias.
Despite his keen ability to detect the unique advantage of an invention in its infancy stage, Bill remains humble. However, Bill’s magic is a nearly effortless byproduct of his uncanny creativity and impeccable quest for knowledge. Although he often does not begin a development project with magic in mind, he “wittingly stumbles into something wonderful” with his many award-winning inventions.
